West Nile Virus re-emerges every year, mainly during the summer and autumn months, with cases recorded in Greece and other European countries. In 2026, as of 3 September, a total of 284 cases had been recorded in various regions of the country.
The virus is transmitted through the bite of infected mosquitoes, while the most effective prevention relies on reducing exposure to mosquitoes and applying appropriate protective measures.
