The term ATEX (ATmosphere EXplosible) refers to the legislative framework that regulates the control of explosive atmospheres and the specifications of the relevant equipment.
The ATEX Study ensures the Health & Safety of workers exposed to explosive atmospheres, based on the European Directives:
- 99/92/EC (ATEX 137)
- 94/9/EC (ATEX 95)

- Safe operation of electromechanical installations
Legislative framework
Greek legislation is harmonized with the above directives through:
- Presidential Decree 42/2003 – Protection of workers from explosive atmospheres
- Ministerial Decree 52019/ΔTBN 1152/2016 – Specifications on protection equipment & systems
According to Article 8 of Presidential Decree 42/2003, the employer is obliged to draw up and update the Document for Protection from Explosion.
