ADR (Accord européen relatif au transport international des marchandises Dangereuses par Route) is the European Agreement on the transport of Dangerous goods by Road, which sets out the conditions and technical requirements for their transport. A corresponding agreement for the transport of dangerous goods by rail is the RID (Regalement International concernant le transport des merchandises dangereuses par chemin de fer).
Legislative framework
The ADR and RID agreements, which set out the rules for the transport of dangerous goods, are regularly revised. In Greece, the implementation of these rules is carried out through the Joint Ministerial Decree 40955/4862/2013 (adaptation of Greek Legislation to the provisions of Directive 2012/45/EE, on the inland transport of dangerous goods).
According to this legislation, companies involved in transport, loading or unloading dangerous goods, are required to have a Transport Safety Advisor for the Transport of Dangerous Goods (acronym in GR “ΣΑΜΕΕ”). The Transport Safety Advisor – ΣΑΜΕΕ, is responsible for implementing the appropriate procedures that ensure the safety of workers, assets and the environment.
Why GEP
GEP has certified consultants to work as Transport Safety Advisors, offering advisory services for the implementation of legislation, such as the classification of goods, proper packaging, transport, loading and unloading procedures, and the fulfillment of requirements for crews and vehicles.
