Seasonal flu is a contagious respiratory illness that occurs every year, mainly during the winter months. In Greece, flu activity usually increases in January and peaks in February and March.
Flu vaccination is the most important prevention measure, as it helps protect against the flu and its serious complications, especially for people in high-risk groups. At the same time, following basic hygiene measures helps limit transmission.
According to the Ministry of Health guidelines for the 2026–2027 season, the flu virus is expected to circulate alongside SARS-CoV-2, which makes timely prevention and the protection of vulnerable groups particularly important. Flu vaccination is recommended as a priority for population groups at increased risk of illness and complications.
