Vaccinations
Vaccinations are the most effective means of protecting employees against occupational and non-occupational exposure to biological agents, to dramatically reducing infection and diseases respectively. The most common biological agents against which vaccinations are performed are the hepatitis B virus, the tetanus clostridium and the influenza virus.
Depending on the nature of the work concerned, the following vaccinations are usually carried out:
- Anti-tetanus vaccination, for workers in outdoor, open-air areas, with a risk of injury
- Against Hepatitis B, for health professionals, workers in research laboratories, for cleaning services, and personnel in sewage collection and treatment
- Against Hepatitis A, for health professionals, sewage collection and treatment personnel, plumbers, food handlers (as a measure for public health), staff of institutions and daycare centers
- Anti-influenza, for health professionals, workers in closed structures, teachers, and people with a serious personal medical history and respiratory problems
Legislative framework
The risk of exposure of workers to biological agents is exhibited in the Written Assessment on Occupational Risk, and entails, among other things, the employer’s obligation to provide employees with the possibility of vaccination, as provided for in the Presidential Decree 186/1995.

Management of First Aid Equipment
