Extreme heat can pose serious risks to workers\u2019 health and safety. The Ministry of Labour and Social Security<\/strong> issued a new Circular<\/strong> on Wednesday, July 22, 2026<\/strong>, introducing emergency measures to protect private-sector workers from particularly high temperatures.<\/p>\n

Key measures:<\/strong><\/p>\n

    \n
  • Mandatory suspension of outdoor manual work<\/strong> from 13:00 to 17:00<\/strong> in Attica, Eastern Central Greece, Thessaly and Eastern Peloponnese.<\/li>\n
  • The measure applies, among others, to construction sites<\/strong>, technical and construction works<\/strong>, shipbuilding and ship repair activities<\/strong>\u00a0and two-wheeled vehicle deliveries<\/strong>.<\/li>\n
  • Employers are required to implement technical and organizational measures<\/strong> to protect workers from heat stress.<\/li>\n
  • For workers belonging to high-risk groups<\/strong>, remote work<\/strong> should be made available where feasible.<\/li>\n
  • Critical infrastructure<\/strong> activities are exempt from the work suspension, provided that the necessary protective measures<\/strong> are implemented.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div>\n
